About Us

The Story Behind

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is a loving abode for old, sick & injured stray cows. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is named after the Sacred Cow, Kamdhenu, who is the source of abundant prosperity. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Trust was founded in the year 2016 under the Grace and Guidance of Maitreya Dadashreeji, a Global Humanitarian, along with the help of numerous volunteers.

The life of a cow is full of pain with most of them being born on dairy farms. Male calves are usually killed after birth for their skin which is processed into leather, while the females are raised in worse conditions, deprived of their mother’s Love and affection. As they grow a couple of years older they are artificially inseminated by humans. Immediately after delivery they are separated from their calves, never to know the fate of male calves. Their milk is sold for monetary gains. Throughout their torturing tenure at dairy farms, they are used as milk-producing machines and fed with steroids under inhumane conditions. Once their milk production stops and they grow too old to bear calves, they are abandoned and left on their own. None of these dairy farm bred cows live long enough to die a natural death. They either die by ingesting plastic, poisonous substances or meet with a fatal accident.

We endeavour to physically heal bovine animals that have fallen victim to animal cruelty and to provide a loving home to them. It is a purely social, voluntary and contributory initiative.

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam
KARJAT

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Karjat is currently operational at Jamrung village in Karjat in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The Gau Dhaam project, first commenced with 6 abandoned cows and today it’s home to 25 cows. Of all the cows, a majority of cows were abandoned and recovered from local villagers. A few cows produce Milk, which after feeding the calves is directly sent to Sneh Sanskaar Gurukul free of charge. Out of 4000 sq. ft. of Gau Dhaam, 1500 Sq. ft. is used for a cowshed and the remaining area is allotted to store water, fodder and other equipment. It is currently operational with the help of 3 local workers from the village, who work full-time right from looking after the cows, feeding them, cleaning them and milking them in addition to other requirements.

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam - AMRITSAR

Located at Naraingarh, Chheharta in the Holy City of Amritsar, State of Punjab. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is a 7000 Square Yards Cow Shelter built by Municipal Corporation Amritsar. It is barely 500 meters away from India Gate and 200 meters away from War Memorial and Museum. It is a nurturing home to more than 300 abandoned cows at the moment. There are more than 18 paid Sevadaars (helpers) apart from our volunteers who look after the wellbeing of these bovine animals. At our Gau Dhaam, we endeavour to provide personal attention and care to each individual animal with separate special zones allocated for Bulls, Cows, Calves and a special care unit for sick and injured ones. Since we do not indulge in the dairy business none of the cows is treated like milk-producing machines. At Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam cows are treated as family members and due care is given to them. The health status of each and every cow is noted on a regular basis and is logged for long term monitoring. To ensure proper medical care a veterinary doctor visits our loving home regularly and is locally available in case of an emergency.
Apart from a nutritious diet and special medical care topping our priority list, we ensure the provision of fresh drinking water and proper ventilation for our bovine animal family. Amongst the Sevadaars, half of them stay at the shelter to provide round the clock care and to fulfil all the needs and requirements of our bovine animals.
