Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam – Karjat, Mumbai
Nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Karjat, Mumbai, Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is a spacious sanctuary spread across 4,840 Square Yards, dedicated to providing shelter, nourishment and compassionate care to abandoned and destitute bovine animals. The Gau Dhaam is located approximately 500 meters from Vijaybhoomi University and beside Shantikshetra Premgiri Ashram, making it a serene setting for the animals entrusted to our care.
The shelter is presently home to around 100 cows and bulls. With its generous open space and peaceful surroundings, the Gau Dhaam provides an environment where the animals can move freely, rest comfortably and live away from the hardships they may have experienced on the streets.
A committed team of 8 paid Sevadaars (helpers) forms the backbone of the shelter's daily operations. They work closely with the animals, taking care of their feeding, cleanliness, water requirements and general wellbeing. Their continuous presence also helps ensure that the needs of individual animals are noticed and attended to with sensitivity.
At Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam, our approach extends beyond simply providing shelter. We believe that every cow and bull deserves dignity, protection and a life free from neglect. The animals are cared for without any commercial motive, as the Gau Dhaam does not operate as a dairy business. Our focus remains on their welfare rather than their productivity.
The shelter places particular importance on maintaining a healthy and comfortable environment. Nutritious food, clean drinking water, hygienic surroundings and appropriate care form an integral part of the daily routine. Animals requiring additional attention are observed closely and provided with the necessary support and medical assistance.
Surrounded by the natural calm of Karjat, Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam aims to be more than just a shelter—it is a place of refuge where cows and bulls can find safety, nourishment and compassion. Through the dedication of our Sevadaars, volunteers and supporters, we continue our endeavour to give these animals the peaceful and protected life they deserve.
